The Illinois Watch
Case Factory |
The Illinois Watch Case Company played a vital part in
the success of Elgin Watches. While The Elgin Watch Factory led the country in
making watches, it was the face, the hands and the internal workings (commonly
referred to as the movement) that they manufactured. The watch case would be
made by other companies and sold to jewelry stores. There, the customer would
pick out which watch movement and which watch case they wished to buy. The
jeweler would fit the movement into the case, a practice commonly referred to as
casing the watch.
