Lord's Park |
George
and his wife Mary Lord bought 50 acres of land and donated it to the city for
the creation of the park. Originally, the land was offered to the city through a
syndicate of real estate developers for less than ten thousand dollars. The city
was skeptical and voted against its acquisition in 1899. The Lords, however, saw
this as a wonderful opportunity for Elgin and purchased it themselves for
sixteen thousand dollars and presented it to the city.
